Red Belt - the Verb Timeline

Red Belt practice revolves around the Verb Timeline as its core tool. A simple Verb Timeline looks as follows:

At the White Belt level, we practice the back-and-forth of questions and answers using Verb Starting Points. This is still the case at Red Belt level (in fact, it is still the case at every level), but now, we are drawing from the past, present, and future sections of the Verb Timeline.

The three Core Questions that you must be able to answer at this level are:

Additional, ChatGPT can provide Red Belt level questions for you using the following prompts:

  • Ask me 5 questions in the simple past tense

  • Ask me 5 questions in the simple present tense

  • Ask me 5 questions in the simple future tense

Here’s what that might look like:

Simple Past

  1. What did you do last weekend?

  2. Where did you grow up?

  3. When did you learn to drive?

  4. What was your favorite subject in school?

  5. How did you spend your last vacation?

Simple Present

  1. What do you do for a living?

  2. Where do you usually shop for groceries?

  3. How often do you exercise?

  4. What kind of music do you like?

  5. Do you enjoy reading books?

Simple Future

  1. What will you do after work today?

  2. Where will you go on your next vacation?

  3. How will you celebrate your next birthday?

  4. Will you take up any new hobbies this year?

  5. What will you cook for dinner tomorrow?

Like before, take your time mastering each question and answer. One question a day is often the most effective dose! The idea is perfect practice. They say practice makes perfect, but really, perfect practice makes perfect. So take you time.

When you can answer around 10 questions in the past, 10 in the present, and 10 in the future, then you have completed Red Belt and are ready to move to Orange.
