White Belt - The Martial Art of Conversation
Using ChatGPT, translate the following questions to your target language.
Hi. How are you?
What’s your name?
Where are you from?
Where do you live?
What’s your city like?
What do you do for work?
What do you like to do for fun?
What’s your favorite color?
What’s your favorite food?
What’s your favorite sport?
What’s your favorite movie?
What’s your favorite book?
What kinds of music do you listen to?
Do you like to cook?
Do you like to travel?
Do you drink coffee?
Do you drink coffee everyday?
What languages do you speak?
What is your native language?
Why do you want to learn (target language)?
In your notebook:
Next, write down the translation of those questions in a notebook. A physical, paper notebook is great. An electronic notebook such as a word-processing document or spreadsheet is also good.
You will notice that all of these questions are in the present tense. They are designed to allow you to begin to engage in basic conversation in your new target language.

Master one Question a day
We encourage you to practice the One-a-Day method. In your notebook, you will write down Question 1 in the target language only. Using ChatGPT, learn how to give an answer to that question, then write it down. Repeat this process once a day. An example of how this looks is as follows:
8/14/24. Day 1.
Hi. How are you? (Written in target language)
I am fine, thanks. And you? (Written in target language)
8/15/24. Day 2.
What’s your name?
My name is Tony. Nice to meet you.
8/16/24. Day 3.
Where are you from?
I’m from Chicago.
Why only one a day? Because it really adds up! And most importantly, it’s a manageable-sized chunk that will ensure that you can truly master you Question of the Day.
Q&A Flashcards
It’s also recommended that you create flashcards — Question on one side, Answer on the other side — so you you can practice quizzing yourself on your ability to answer the questions.
